Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act came into effect on 1st January 2005. The Act gives members of the public a general right of access to recorded information held by public authorities, this includes NHS organisations such as Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
The intention of this Act is to encourage a culture of openness and transparency throughout the public sector.
What information can I request?
Any information recorded or held by Portsmouth Hospitals Trust at the time the request is received will be eligible for disclosure.
The Act does not allow public authorities to disclose personal or sensitive information about patients or staff. This information is protected by the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation.
How do I make a request?
Anyone can make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act. Before submitting a formal request to us, please check to see if the information you are looking for is already available within our "Freedom of Information Requests and Responses 2019/20" section.
Your request must be made in writing and include; your name, an address for correspondence (this may be an email address) and a description of the information you are requesting.

How we respond to requests
Once we have received your written request you will be sent an acknowledgement letter and we will begin processing your request.
In compliance with the Act, we will try to respond to your request within 20 working days.
There may be some circumstances where your request for information is refused under an exemption; for more information on exemptions please visits the Information Commissioner’s Office website.
If you have any questions or are unhappy with how we have dealt with your request, please email our Head of Information Governance on Information.Governance@porthosp.nhs.uk or write to the above address and we will conduct an internal review.
Copies of every request we receive will be held on file for three years before being confidentially destroyed. We may also publish your request within our Disclosure Log; all personal data will be removed prior to publishing.
