Our Research Pathways for researchers aim to provide information which we hope will guide you through the study process; from idea to NHS permissions and set up; through to study delivery, close out, publication and implementation.
Before embarking on a Research Pathway you should first identify if your project idea is research. Not all of the projects undertaken within the NHS are classed as research. Some projects will be classified as a service evaluation, an audit, surveillance or as part of usual practice.
Please read the ‘Defining Research Leaflet’ along with the HRA website to determine if your project idea is defined as research.
If you believe that your project falls into:
Research – please complete the Sponsorship Application Form and return to the Research Office for review. If Sponsorship is agreed you will then continue along the Research Pathways and all projects defined as research must receive formal permission from the Trust in order to begin.
Service Evaluation – please complete the Service Evaluation Proposal Template and return to the Research Office for review. We will them confirm via letter that we agree this is a Service Evaluation, or, where we feel the project is in fact research we will transfer you into the research pathway and you must receive formal permission from the Trust in order to begin.
Clinical Audit - please contact the Clinical Audit Department for further guidance and permission to continue.
If you remain uncertain after reading the leaflet, please complete the Sponsorship Application Form and return to the Research Office who will provide further guidance.
