Critical Care

Our Research

We have three research nurses working alongside the consultant team who are actively engaged in the delivery of research studies within the Critical Care Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital. We are part of a large team (over 140 staff) of experienced doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers, pharmacists and other allied health professionals. We are one of the largest Intensive Care Units (ICU) in the UK, admitting around 1500 patients every year and have 24 beds. We are focused on providing an excellent service, compassionate and high quality patient care and support for both our patients and their families.

As a research team;

  • We support a national portfolio of high quality research studies relating to the care of critically ill patients

  • Embed research into the day to day care & provision of healthcare

  • Encourage the development of new & innovative treatments

  • Are committed to ensuring our patient population are aware of the research opportunities to take part in research relevant to them, should they wish to do so.
