Oncology & Haematology

 Oncology and Haematology Research Department

We are a big research department consisting of a dedicated team of consultants and registrars, with 15 research nurses and clinical trials assistants. We currently have over 65 trials open and in follow up, involving over 3000 patients.

We conduct studies in a number of subspecialties including:

  • Breast

  • Urology

  • Gynaecology

  • Lymphoma

  • Haematology (blood cancers)

  • Upper Gastrointestinal

  • Colorectal

  • Radiotherapy

Research Projects

We like to offer all eligible patients a clinical trial which they can participate in. This would be in discussion with your consultant. Many of our trials/studies run for many years and may require you to attend the clinic more often than normal but you will see the research nurses/CTAs on a regular basis and get to know the team well. Not all of these require the taking of extra medication; some may be observational studies, in which questionnaires are completed over a period of time.

Research Success

Many of the successful developments with oncology and haematology treatments have come about following the results of previous clinical trials/studies. We have been the first hospital in the country to recruit patients into several studies.

Our office is within the Oncology and Haematology Department and we can be reached on

02392 286000 Extension 4810.

You may also see us around the department; we have a large notice board in the outpatients’ clinic with further contact details on.
