Donating goods to The Portsmouth Hospitals Charity Shop:

Unwanted and unused goods are always gratefully received! Please take a look at the below list to see the items we can accept to sell in The Portsmouth Hospitals Charity Shop. If you feel your item is not covered here, please contact julia.fletcher@porthosp.nhs.uk or call 02392 286487 to discuss this with Portsmouth Hospitals Charity Shop directly.

At The Portsmouth Hospitals Charity Shop we love to accept: 

  • Books
  • Shoes and handbags
  • Accessories, such as watches and sunglasses
  • Jewellery
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Children's toys- please note soft toys must have the CE logo on them
  • Homeware- such as good quality decorations, china, and glassware
  • Small, light pieces of furniture (such as an individual chair or stool)
  • New, unused pillow covers, blankets with fire label
  • Home made knitted goods such as baby blankets
  • Board Games
  • Jigsaws


Unfortunately, we are unable to accept:

Children’s Equipment

  • Car seats
  • Prams, pushchairs, buggies
  • Cots, carry cots, playpens, high chairs
  • Cot mattresses
  • Soft toys without CE label

Furniture & Housewares

  • Oil heaters, Gas appliances, Oil lamps
  • Cigarette lighters and cigarette lighter refill canisters
  • Knives and Scissors
  • Used pillows
  • Cushions, cushion covers and tailored furniture covers (unless fire label is attached)
  • Candles without instructions
  • Fireworks

Electrical Items

  • Electric blankets
  • Electric showers
  • Sunbeds and tanning equipment
  • Waste disposal units
  • Power tools without instructions
  • Refrigeration - selected BEKO models
  • Gaming machines
  • Large or bulky electronic items


  • Knives
  • Swords, sword sticks, crossbows
  • Guns and ammunition (including replica guns, unless obviously toys)

Heating and Cooking

  • Gas appliances (mains or bottles goods)
  • Oil filled radiators (not supplied with a thermostat)
  • Oil heaters (mobile)
  • Storage heaters (hardwired)
  • Oil and Gas Agas
  • Ovens with glass doors

Sport & Safety Equipment

  • Buoyancy aids, life jackets, inflatable dinghies, inflatable toys for water
  • Safety Helmets - Riding hats, crash helmets, cycle helmets
  • Safety harness of any sort
  • Fire fighting equipment

Software and Hardware

  • Home recorded DVDs, video and audio tapes
  • Home recorded computer games and software on recordable CDs and DVDs


  • Personal appliances, such as shavers, foot spas etc. (unless in mint condition, sealed box)
  • Medication including vitamins
  • Perishable goods, food and drink
  • Prescription spectacles
  • Cleaning agents, solvents, adhesives
  • Items made from ivory
  • Duvets or pillows (used)
  • Real fur or fur trimmed items
  • Petrol or diesel fuelled garden tools including lawn mowers, strimmers etc.
